Great read! I admire your technique of referencing literature and drawing analogies to convey your point on and wanted to add on to a select few points through personal anecdote.

Your take on Nicolas Thompson training to run marathons at the age off 44 takes me back to 2018 when I used to watch clips of David Goggins, a retired Navy SEAL who talks about his journey from a cockroach exterminator to a ranger serving the US army. His series of motivational talks completely changed my approach during the time I was trying to find employment in the US and also when training to build physical strength. He emphasized on a concept called the Accountability Mirror, to have full realization of one's fear and countering them through grit and mental resilience. There is no short cut to escaping one's fears except facing them head on.

During times of COVID, people have to find a way and keep pushing forward as you mention, which would require adapting to surroundings; however quintessentially the same, but is socially disrupted. People will think twice to shake hands or touch surfaces and here the adaptability element fits broadly with your analogy of moving through 'treacherous waters'. People will be more risk averse once things normalize to a certain extent.

Excellent first attempt. The article provides a great deal of thought in these trying times. I almost developed the motivation to go out and swim across the English Channel to challenge my boredom. Great read!
